Jesus then "sternly" instructs the man not tell anyone what happened, but to go to the priest and respond as the Mosaic law dictates. Instead, the man tells many people, so many, that Jesus can no longer go into town, so the people come to him in the countryside.
I used to read the accounts of the effect that Jesus' activities had on local populations and think that people are no longer available to hear of a single act and respond en mass. This morning I brought my thinking up to date. With the internet, of course, we have all witnessed many group responses on a significantly larger scale.
Although the internet has been used for evil, stupid, or wasteful purposes, sometimes it has been and is being used for good. I am grateful that I am living in this time. I am happy to see good news magnified for the benefit of the world.
